Ori and the Blind Forest performed by WDR Funkhausorchester and Choir

In August I had the extreme privilege of attending SoundTrack_Cologne in Germany, where the WDR Funkhausorchesterand WDR Rundfunkchor performed my arrangement of Gareth Coker's music from "Ori and the Blind Forest".

Not only was the concert itself fantastic in the selection of games represented—where many of the composers were in attendance—but the musicians did such an excellent job, led by the wonderfully caring and energetic Evan Christ. And if that wasn’t enough, the featured pianist was Benyamin Nuss who also expertly performed works for solo piano.

You can find  Ori the Game at 25:10 on part 2, but I recommend the entire concert!

Video game music is a wonderful gateway to classical

Check out a recent article about the comparison between video game music and 'classical' music over on Laced Records blog!

I discussed Final Fantasy Tactics as it relates to Prokofiev, and Saga Frontier II as it relates to John Adams.

The article features contributions composers Jessica Curry, Austin Wintory and Lloyd Coleman, podcaster Emily Reese, and the Videri String Quartet.
